If you haven’t already read our last article, we talked about some of the things you should know about Air Purifiers, such as the common types of Air Purifiers, when you should use them, and the sort of benefits it brings.

Today, we’re going to look at which Xiaomi air purifiers are available and which one suits your needs best.

What You Should Look For In An Air Purifier

Before we look into the available range of Xiaomi air purifiers, let’s take a look at some areas you should consider before purchasing one.

HEPA Filter

HEPA filters are the current industry standard for the best filters you can get. As mentioned previously, HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air, designed to trap 99.97% of particulate matter that is 0.3 microns in diameter.

With that said, you should look for air purifiers with True HEPA filters as they are the most efficient in ensuring clean air quality. If you want to avoid odours and gases, you can also look for HEPA and activated carbon filters.

Size Compatibility

Air purifiers were designed to clean the air in rooms of specific sizes. Their coverage area differs depending on which model it is. To choose the right air purifier that suits your needs, consider the square footage of the site you want to make use of the cleaner.

It goes without saying that the larger the room, the wider the coverage area is required. We recommend purchasing a model that can cover ample space to save on energy costs. With that, the air purifier continues to be effective even if it uses the lowest settings.

Noise Level

Most air purifiers produce noise ranging from 35 to 70 decibels, especially air purifiers with HEPA filters. The noise level depends on the cleaner’s operational setting. The higher it is, the louder it gets.

To avoid any sleep disruptions, consider getting an air purifier with lower decibels but still maintains its effectiveness. Although some people do find the noise produced soothing and calming, which helps them sleep better.

Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR)

Air purifiers come labelled with a Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR), a metric developed by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). The CADR rating helps consumers understand how fast an air purifier can clean the air within a particular room. It shows the speed at which the air purifier can filter out dust, smoke, and pollen molecules (the three most common pollutants).

On average, dust particles vary between 0.5 to 3 microns. Smoke particles range between 0.1 to 0.3 microns. At the same time, pollen particles are 5 to 11 microns in size.

CADR is also measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). To illustrate, an air purifier with 500 CFM can purify a 500 square feet room faster than one with a 400 CFM.  Therefore, the higher the CADR number, the quicker the filters can refine the air.

Air Change Per Hour (ACH) Rating

The Air Change Per Hour (ACH) rating indicates the number of times per hour an air purifier can filter out the air in a room. The higher the ACH rating, the better efficiency, and the air quality.

It’s better to get an air purifier with a higher ACH rating if allergens easily trigger you. This helps you ensure the indoor air gets filtered at a faster rate to ease the allergic symptoms. We suggest looking for air purifiers with more than 3x ACH ratings.

Maintenance

Like any other electronic appliance, an air purifier isn’t exempted from any maintenance costs. To ensure the effectiveness of an air purifier, you have to change the filter consistently. These filters vary; some, like HEPA filters, are disposable and need to be replaced, while others are washable. It is recommended to change the filters once every three months or so, depending on the brands’ recommendation.

Unlike its predecessor, the Mi Air Purifier 3H offers a round OLED touch display that lets you tap the keys to kickstart the cleaner with a range of collections available.  Delivering a 22% increase of CADR to 380 m³/h with a coverage area of 26 ~ 45 m² to ensure every part of your home has clean air circulating.

It also comes integrated with a True HEPA 360° cylindrical triple-layer filter that successfully removes PM2.5 pollutants, formaldehyde, and any other harmful particles. The 3H also has a new and improved air duct system designed to provide 6330 litres of purified air per minute!

On top of that, the 3H has a laser PM sensor that detects even the slightest pollutant. Much like Xiaomi’s other range of intelligent devices, the 3H works well with the Mi Home App that lets you control the settings, and it also has AI voice control.

Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H is best for those who don’t mind splurging a bit more but want to make the most out of the features it provides. The 3H is also worth considering if you’re going to save space, as it is the size of an A4 paper.

Next, let’s talk about the Mi Air Purifier Pro, one of Xiaomi’s flagship purifiers. Much like the 3H, it adopts the same concept with a sleek design topped with the OLED touch display. It has a vast PM CADR of 500 m³/h circulation with a coverage area of 35 ~ 60 m² that can reach all the nooks and crannies of your home.

The Pro has a unique tower design that allows for a rapid formation of a 360°circulation of air in the room. You can get constant clean air with its new pure and more powerful aerodynamic system. Although the Pro doesn’t come with a True HEPA filter, it still packs in an integrated barrel-shaped activated carbon filter to consistently deliver quality air as promised.

If you don’t mind the higher price point but want to get the whole package, the Air Purifier Pro is one of the better choices available. You can place it in the living room while still getting clean air from different rooms.

Lastly, the Pro H is the newest addition to the Xiaomi air purifier family. It is slightly larger than the Pro but delivers more excellent air circulation with PM CADR 600 m³/h to an application area of 42 ~ 72 m², intending to eliminate all aldehydes, bacteria, and viruses. It also circulates up to CADR 220 m³/h of formaldehyde and toluene that gives your house extra clean, breathable air.

The Pro H also comes equipped with an entirely new filter design that comprises an outer filter that can be vacuum cleaned, a HEPA filter, and an inner activated charcoal core to capture all particles, letting none escape. Besides, this filter can last up to 14 months, which saves you the hassle of frequent changes. On top of that, it also gets rid of everyday odours, keeping your home fresh.

The Xiaomi Air Purifier Pro H  has a relatively high price point, but the high CADR and other improved features make it worthwhile. If you want to get the most out of an air purifier, this one’s for you.

Additional Steps To Improve Indoor Air Quality

If you’re teetering between purchasing an air purifier but don’t feel like investing in one, worry not! Here are some bonus tips on how you can improve indoor air quality.

      • Keep Your House Clean. Vacuum and mop the floors once every week to avoid any allergen or dust build-ups. Make sure you clean the carpets and rugs too. And if you have a pet, we suggest cleaning your home twice a week.

      • Buy Indoor Plants. Plants are said to be nature’s natural filters. Purchasing a few indoor plants can improve your indoor air quality as they give off oxygen and dilute carbon dioxide levels in the room.

      • Use Exhaust Fan When Cooking. This helps dissipate the smoke after cooking and dries up the ambient air. That’s because the humidity in the air may lead to bacteria and allergen growth.

Control Humidity In Your Home. Depending on your location, the summer season can bring incredibly humid conditions. Consider using a dehumidifier to prevent any mould and mildew growth.

      Conclusion

Deciding between the type of Xiaomi air purifiers to choose from ultimately comes down to your budget and what you are looking for in a cleaner. Don’t forget about what you should look for before purchasing one, too, especially the CADR number!

If you want something that isn’t too pricey but still does what is promised, we suggest going for the Air Purifier 3H. If you don’t mind spending more to secure a sound investment, we recommend going for the Air Purifier Pro H.

We hope this article was helpful to you in your purchasing decision! Even if it’s just a little.
